Mobility solutions aggregator: an opportunity for cities and regions?

16.09.2022

As one of the factors contributing to the attractiveness of localities and regions, the mobility issue is today perceived as a major structural factor. All the more reason for localities and regions to have a practical digital tool that lists all the available services: the mobility solutions aggregator.

At a time when major cities are developing as much as the outskirts and town centres, mobility has become a crucial issue for citizens and companies. The demand for ever more efficient modes of transport and the increase (and diversification) in multimodal services are forcing public sector decision makers to redesign their local and regional plans to grant the necessary place to new practices and to adapt the development of public areas.

These include the creation of dedicated lanes for active transport modes (bicycles, scooters, roller skates, etc.) or for public transport (trams, high-capacity buses, etc.) but also, for example, mobility hubs in rural areas. In addition, the market share of electric cars has increased sharply by +46.1%* in 2021 compared to 2020* and that of LPG by +179.8%*, requiring a greater number of dedicated recharging stations - all the more so as sales of new cars with internal combustion engines are planned to end in 2035 in Europe.

All in one!

While it is becoming crucial for users to be guided through the multitude of options available for rationalising their journeys, local authorities must be able to react by resizing infrastructures and adapting mobility services to the actual demand: mobility is now considered as a service in its own right (MaaS, or Mobility as a Service). Mobility by Colas's Moov'hub service centralises all the public and private services available in a given area. It is an ideal tailor-made, integrated and cross-cutting response to this problem, as it can recommend multimodal routes to users, inform them in real time about the availability of services and suggest alternative modes of transport, etc. It can also be used to make reservations or purchase mobility services via a single application. An essential auxiliary in "mobility 2.0", Moov'hub can regulate mobility on the scale of the locality or region by responding to users' specific needs, adapting the infrastructure and mobility services on offer according to the measured usage.
