Preventive management of the Cher departmental road network

Nearly 4,600 kilometres of departmental roads crisscross the Cher. On a daily basis, the Department is working to meet the traffic and safety needs of the people of the Cher. To help them in this task, Colas is working with the departmental council's teams to deploy the ANAIS service, for preventive management of road assets.

ISSUES

After decades of falling accidents rates and road deaths, a plateau has been reached. New methods and solutions are needed to improve road safety. The Departmental Council aims to allow residents and visitors motorists of the department to ciculate safely.

AIM OF THE PROJECT

  • To provide the local authority with a digital service based on the use on-board data.
  • Contribute to enhancing user safety by detecting and preventively treating warning areas, sometimes before actual accidents occur.

HOW IT WORKS

ANAIS is a system for collecting and analysing data on the behaviour of vehicles on the road. It is used to identify warning zones on the road network and to make maintenance recommendations to road managers for their road assets.

FUNCTIONALITIES

  • In-depth analysis of alert zones in the business tool.
  • Triggering and monitoring of field studies.
  • Recommendations for improvements from a leader in road maintenance.

RESULTS

The ANAIS service was implemented between 2021 and 2022. A continuous analysis was carried out on the 4.600 km of departmental roads, enabling more than 70 zones to be identified and treated.
