STUDY CARRIED OUT FOR THE CÔTE D'OR DEPARTMENT

As part of its road safety policy, the Côte d'Or Department has asked Mobility by Colas to carry out a route study on the road RD981 between Pouilly-en-Auxois and Arnay-le-Duc. This mission is part of an initiative to improve road safety for users of the departmental roads.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE

Faced with recurring safety problems on the RD981, the Department decided to carry out an in-depth analysis of this section of road and its surroundings. The main objective was to identify high-risk areas and gain a better understanding of user behavior, particularly in relation to the surprise effects that can lead to accident-prone situations.

SURVEY CONDUCTED

The study was based on ANAIS' “Diag. Itinéraire” offering, combining several complementary analyses:

  • Identification of at-risk areas based on ANAIS alerts, mapped in detail.

  • Analysis of singular points, with prioritization based on the index of calmed driving (ICA) calculated from actual driver behavior.
  • Study of user behavior, correlated with the conditions of occurrence of events (weather, light, day of the week), distinguishing in particular the proportion of heavy goods vehicles.

  • Speed analyses in areas identified as sensitive, to characterize speed ranges at the time of events.

In addition, Mobility by Colas' expertise in road infrastructure has enriched the analysis with concrete, targeted recommendations.

RESULTS

  • Locate and prioritize high-risk areas

  • Better understand the impact of external factors (rain, night, cold...) on safety
  • Highlight risky behaviours according to traffic conditions

  • Formulate development proposals to improve safety on the routes studied

CONCLUSION

Thanks to an approach based on behavioral data and innovative analysis tools, Mobility by Colas has provided the Côte d'Or with a complete and operational diagnosis, enabling it to better target safety interventions on the RD981 and its surroundings.
